Qatar’s announced today its third wave of LNG expansion, which would bring the country’s total LNG export capacity to a staggering 200 bcm/y by 2030.
Qatar’s current LNG export capacity is around 77 mtpa (or 105-108 bcm/y). the North Field East expansion is expected to add around 45 bcm/y, followed by the North Field South expansion, adding a further 22 bcm/y of liquefaction capacity.
Today’s announcement is the Northwest Field project, which would add another 22 bcm/y of liquefaction capacity by 2030.
Hence, Qatar’s LNG liquefaction capacity is expected to increase by 85% by the end of this decade, with its total export capacity nearing 200 bcm (in comparison global LNG trade stood at 550 bcm in 2023).
Qatar is solidifying its position as the world’s leading LNG supplier, with a strong track record of reliability and ability to provide low-cost gas to price sensitive markets.
