On January 26, 2024, the Biden Administration announced a “temporary pause” in the approval process of natural gas export permits to countries that do not have a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United States.1 This has the potential to affect liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and the facilities associated with liquefying and exporting the natural gas. The Department of Energy’s non-FTA permit to export natural gas is one component of the federal regulatory process.
