Statistical review of global energy markets

In 2022, international trade of natural gas as LNG represented 56% of all inter-regional traded gas. At a total of 542 Bcm, gas trade was up 5% on the previous year. The Middle East was the largest exporter of LNG and, together with Australia and the US, represented 65% of total LNG exports. At 98 Bcm, Japan was the largest importer of LNG. Along with China, it accounted for 35% of total global imports. As a region, Asia Pacific imported around 65% of total LNG, followed by Europe at just over 30%.
