Qatar takes FID on its giant LNG expansion project, 4 megtrains with a total capacity of close to 33 mtpa (~10% of EU annual gas consumption), making it the largest FID in the history of LNG.
Qatar’s cost competitiveness is guaranteed with a unit cost of below $900/tonne, whilst feedgas costs will be supported by the additional production of liquids.
The project is expected to start up in Q4 2025, and Qatar readies for the new era of LNG supply: the project will be supported by a CCS system, cleaning up those LNG molecules!
What is your view? Is there any market place left to other projects? Qatar targets a second expansion…
