Calcasieu Pass LNG recently stated to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that the facility experienced failures at the power island and heat steam recovery generator during routine tests last year where weld leaks were identified as the cause of heat system problems after additional testing.
The supplier General Electric Co. (GE) will require an investigation into the issues.
While GE does repairs, Calcasieu Pass will continue commissioning activities and loading cargo. Nominations to Calcasieu Pass have increased back to levels around 1.6 Bcf/D after decreasing earlier this year.
Calcasieu Pass’ Venture Global expected commercial operations to begin this year which would trigger their offtake agreements with many foreign entities.
That start appears to be threatened and until repairs are complete, commercial operations may be delayed.
